Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
